How do I know if I need a water softener?
Common signs of hard water are white scale on taps and kettles, spotted glassware, soap that will not lather, dry skin and hair, and appliances that fail early. The only way to know for sure is a hardness test, which we do for free in the store. If the reading is high enough to cause those problems, a softener sized to your household will solve them.
What is the difference between a water filter and a water softener?
A filter physically or chemically removes things like sediment, chlorine, iron or bacteria. A softener removes the dissolved calcium and magnesium that make water hard, using ion exchange. They solve different problems, and many homes on well water use both, with the filter installed ahead of the softener.
Is your water testing really free?
Yes. The basic in-store test is free. Bring a sample to our Georgetown store or walk in, and we will test it while you wait and explain the results. Extended testing packages, for a full well profile or specific contaminants, are available at a cost that we quote up front.
Do you service well water systems?
Yes. Well water treatment is a core part of what we do: iron filters, sulphur treatment, tannin systems, sediment filtration, softeners and UV disinfection. We test the water, recommend a treatment order that works, and install and maintain the system.
Can I buy water treatment products online?
Yes. Our full catalogue of systems, filters, salt and parts is available online with secure ordering. Choose local delivery in Georgetown and the surrounding area, or pick up at the store.
How often should I change my water filter?
As a general guide: sediment filters every 3 to 6 months, carbon filters every 6 to 12 months, reverse osmosis membranes every 2 to 3 years, and UV lamps once a year. Heavy sediment, high iron or a large household shortens those intervals. If you are not sure, bring in the old cartridge or tell us your model and we will set you up.
